Wilhelm Blohm

Son of Hinrich Friedrich BLOHM and Anna Christine BLOHM, born OHRT. BLOHM’s interest for collecting and love for nature arose already during his childhood around Lübeck, where he soon became associated with the „Naturhistorisches Museum Lübeck“. BLOHM became teacher in 1898 and taught in Lübeck until 1927. He used his career as teacher for promoting his knowledge about local natural history. He was also experienced in taxidermy and supplied the natural history museum with local specimens. Before the first world war he stayed in contact with the bird ringing station Rossitten and ringed birds around Lübeck and on Fehmarn. He published on natural history in regional journals like Nerthus, Von Lübecks Türmen, Lübecker Blätter, Lübecker Generalanzeiger, Lauenburger Heimat as well as in Journal für Ornithologie and Ornithologische Monatsberichte. G. CLODIUS used his ornithological records in „Berichte über Mecklenburg (und Lübeck)“ in Archiv Mecklenburg between 1907 and 1920. In 1909 BLOHM travelled to Livland and collected waterfowl at lake Babbit. Later he leased fishponds in the surroundings of Lübeck experiencing with aquaculture. BLOHM had 6 children with Marie BLOHM, born GIELAU, of whom he got divorced in 1920. In the same year he married Jenny Johanna Sophie SCHULTZ. After his retirement from school he moved to Retzow near Lychen.
