Carlos Samuel Reed
Son of E.C. REED arrived to Chile in March 1869, entering Museo Nacional in July 1869, working mainly with insects. In 1877 he moved to Valparaiso, working as a natural sciences teacher and in 1878 became curator of the Natural History Museum of Valparaiso. He also was the founder of the Astronomical Observatory there. Because of poor health he had to leave the museum at Valparaiso after only one year. In September 1902 REED moved to Concepcion where he founded the Natural History Museum of Concepcion (also named Concepcions Regional Museum). There he worked as director until his death in 1910. He was a key figure in Chiles scientific community.
