Bruno Geisler

In 1887 GEISLER left Germany together with his brother Herbert for collecting in Ceylon and Java. 1890 they moved on to New Guinea, then a German colony, and from 1890-1892 they worked on the Kai-peninsular. Their collections mainly went to the zoological-ethnological museum in Dresden. The bird skins where studied by A.B. MEYER (1891, 1892, 1893). In 1893 GEISLER returned to Germany and became taxidermist and curator at the museum in Dresden. He became also well know as bird illustrator for MEYER & WIGLESWORTH (1898), Birds of Celebes, for REICHENOW (1900-1905) and the new NAUMANN (1897-1905). All his contributions are listed in HEYDER (1965). 1923 he left the museum and died after a quite secluded life in Dresden. He is commemorated in bird taxa described by A.B. MEYER.
