Wilhelm Hoffmanns
Already a naturalist and collector during his youth HOFFMANNS became a merchant in Krefeld. But at the end 1889s he moved his business to Peru in order to collect and sell botanical and zoological specimens of unknown regions. Expeditions led to Brazil, Para, Rio Madeira 1906/08. Entomologically he collected in in Peru 1901/04 at Chanchamayo, Pozuzu, but this collection seems to be scattered. Bird specimens went mainly to ROTHSCHILD in Tring, to the museum in Munich and to BERLEPSCH and A. KOENIG. Most of these collections were studied and published by C.E. HELLMAYR. Around 1900 the HOFFMANNS firm still dealt with palearctic specimens, especially eggs. Employed collectors sent supplies from Spain, Finland and the Balkan (Th. KRÜPER). HOFFMANNS is commemorated in birds taxa described by C.E. HELLMAYR.
