Gabaldon L. Briceno

The BRICENO family were professional collectors in Merida, Venezuela from 1872 until 1944 who worked closely together with the natural history dealer ROSENBERG. José y Salomón BRICENO (1826-1912), since 1880 Salomón BRICENO GABALDÓN and sons. Between 1888 and 1906 they regularly collected for the ROTHSCHILD collection in Tring (up to 3465 m above sea-level). They also contributed to the collection SEILERN (NMW), to the museums in Budapest, Washington (214 specimens from 1903 via Wirt ROBINSON, 23 specimens from 1906-1911), New York, Genoa, Geneva, Chicago (329 specimens, 1872-1921), etc. Miss Francisca BRICENO GABALDON continued selling specimens to the Caracas museum. The archive of The Natural History Museum, Tring holds correspondence of BRICENO with the zoological department (1886-1898).
