Chester Barlow
Graduated from High School and having lost his parents early BARLOW entered the Santa Clara Valley Bank where he made his way from clerk to member of the board of directors. He was married October 15, 1899, to Miss Jeannette NICHOLLS. His love for nature led him to become oologist, collector of birds, field ornithologist and bird photographer. He was a co-founder and long-term secretary of the Cooper Ornithological Club and spent much effort in editing its journal and motivating ornithologists of all ages. The clubs bulletin later became the famous journal The Condor. Companions were W.H. OSGOOD, H.R. PAINTON and SCHNEIDER. He also was member of the American Ornithologists Union. His editing work for The Condor, his popular publications and his social manner to fellow ornithologists made him well known in California. He died of tuberculosis.
BARLOW specimens found their way to other collections via the natural history dealer ROSENBERG.
